Here is the latest local news Marietta.
Marietta City Schools Superintendent Brad Silvus says that there was a threat at Marietta Elementary School. Since only custodial staff was there, they were evacuated. The building was searched by law enforcement and cleared. The threat was deemed to be not credible. (MCS)
It looks like abortion will be on the ballot for Ohio. Pro-abortion advocates were able to get well over the amount of signatures needed to get a measure on the November ballot. It looks like there wasn’t quite as much special interest money behind recreational marijuana, so they weren’t able to collect enough signatures to get pot on the ballot. (Statenews)
The Ohio State Fair kicks off today.
Through August 6th, there are loads of attractions and entertainment scheduled. A giant butter sculpture will be featured. This fair is fun for the whole family! There will be a big State Police presence making sure everything is safe, so make your way to the fairgrounds in Columbus soon! (OSHP)
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help identifying an individual.
Deputies say someone broke into the Adultmart in Aurelius Township early Monday morning. They have some grainy images of a person of interest. Anyone who thinks they know who this might be is asked to drop a tip or call 911. (WSCO)

A little about me. My name is Chris Schmitt. I’m from Marietta, I went to Marietta High School and graduated from Ohio University with a degree in Journalism. I wrote for WOUB, Southeast Ohio Magazine, a slew of newspapers in Virginia, and was a national radio correspondent for IHeartRadio. I also started the Marietta Ohio Patch and until recently authored the daily newsletter. I say these things not to brag, but just to let you know, I’m not a hack… or if I am, less so than ANY other writer in the area.
