Here is the latest local news Marietta.
The Marietta Fire Department is going to flush hydrants today on Route 7 roughly between Lowe’s and Don Schaly Stadium.
Customers should watch out for water that looks funny. Flush your water lines if they do.
Fourth of July is tomorrow, and the laws are different everywhere. However, if you’re trying to blast off some bottle rockets in Washington County, here are the rules. Be mindful when driving, there WILL be a lot of drunks out on the road, DON’T BE ONE OF THEM. And take extra precaution for your pets.
The Historic Harmar Bridge Company has landed on a new design for the bridge. The bridge has been closed since 2020 for safety concerns. They have decided not to try and build a replica, but instead switch to a more modern design. (Save Harmar Bridge)
Oh(io) the times they are a-changin. The state legislature has passed an $86-billion budget with measures that could affect you. The budget is being sent to the governor. If DeWine signs it, it could signal the end of flavored vape products, the beginning of universal school vouchers, and billions in income tax breaks. (AP/WOUB)
Ohio University’s new president is starting her tenure at the college. Lori Stewart Gonzalez’s first day was July 1. The outgoing president, Hugh Sherman, issued a statement about the Supreme Court ending affirmative action in college admissions. He was pretty vague in his statement, all he really said is they would be working to ensure they were aligned with other colleges and universities moving forward, whatever that means.

A little about me. My name is Chris Schmitt. I’m from Marietta, I went to Marietta High School and graduated from Ohio University with a degree in Journalism. I wrote for WOUB, Southeast Ohio Magazine, a slew of newspapers in Virginia, and was a national radio correspondent for IHeartRadio. I also started the Marietta Ohio Patch and until recently authored the daily newsletter. I say these things not to brag, but just to let you know, I’m not a hack… or if I am, less so than ANY other writer in the area.
